Scientific Papers Regulations

1. Those interested in submitting paper(s) abstract(s) for selection and subsequent presentation at the 49th São Paulo Radiological Meeting (JPR 2019), an event that will take place on May 2 - 5, 2019, at the Transamerica Expo Center, in São Paulo, SP, Brazil, must complete the registration form with the data of the responsible author(s) and the paper abstract on the website, through the submission system, until January 7, 2019, at 11:59 pm (Brasília official time).

2. Papers registration by fax, CD/DVD, flash drive, email or other means other than the submission system will not be accepted.

3. The author responsible for the registration will be in charge of receiving all the communications related to the JPR 2019 Scientific Papers sent by the event organizer and pass them on to the other authors of the paper.

4. Only the responsible author can edit the content of the abstract or request the cancellation of its submission.

5. The responsible author can edit the abstract submitted until January 7, 2019, at 11:59 pm (Brasília official time), through the abstracts submission system. Changes in the text or title of the abstract, as well as changes in the names of authors and cancellation of submission, will not be allowed after that date.

6. If the submission of a summary must be cancelled, it must be done by the responsible author by January 7, 2019, at 11:59 pm (Brasília official time). The submission cancellation must be made at, through the submission system. We emphasize that when submitting a paper summary to JPR 2019, the author(s) assumes the commitment to present the paper in the event if approved.

7. The abstract should be written in English and also in a second language to be chosen from the ones listed below: a) Portuguese b) Spanish Abstracts written in languages other than those indicated in this regulation will not be accepted for this event.

8. In the space designated "Authors Name", the names must be registered in the following order: the last name in capital letters, followed by the initials of the other names. Example: the name Carlos Aguiar Nogueira would be written as NOGUEIRA, C. A.

9. Advertising or promotional content is not permitted in the abstract content.

10. It is forbidden to mention in the paper abstract the name of the institution where it was developed and/or where the authors work or any other data that indicates or suggests the authorship of the paper be it in the title, in the body of the abstract or the images of the paper. If this is essential, such name should be replaced by XXX or XXX or XXX (e.g., Review of 48 Cases of Orbital Tumors of the XXX Institute of Medicine of the XXX Institution). Abstracts that do not comply with this standard will be disqualified.

11. The identity of the patient should be preserved. No data that allows its identification can be presented. Abstracts that do not comply with this standard will be disqualified.

12. Only papers summaries that are related or of interest to Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging will be accepted. Those who do not meet these prerequisites will be disqualified.

13. The author should classify the paper into a category, an area, and a type of study, as described below.

13.1. Category: Defines the format in which the author wishes to present the paper. The categories to be chosen are:

01. Printed Papers (PI) – printed poster display.
02. Digital Presentation (PD) – display on computers via digital file.
03. Oral Presentation (TL) – oral presentation during class. Please note: Only original papers will be accepted for this category.

13.2. Area: By "area" is meant the subspecialty of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging to which the paper fits. The areas in which the author(s) should classify their paper are:

01. Abdominal / Digestive Tract
02. Abdominal / Genitourinary Treatment
03. Head and Neck
04. Cardiovascular
05. Teaching
06. Physics / Quality Control
07. Informatics / Management
08. Intervention
09. Breast
10. Fetal Medicine
11. Nuclear Medicine

13. Pediatrics
14. PET-CT
15. Musculoskeletal System
16. Radiological Techniques
17. Chest
18. Ultrasonography
19. Veterinary Radiology
20. Basic/Preclinical Research
If the author enrols the paper in an area that does not correspond to the one to which the abstract belongs, it may be redirected by the Scientific Papers Committee to the corresponding area.

13.3. Type of Study: The author should indicate the type of study used for the development of the paper, according to the following options:

01. Original Paper: Original scientific paper, resulting from research, with a contribution to the advance of medical science. This paper should allow other researchers or specialized professionals to repeat the observations described and judge the results and conclusions of the author(s), as well as verify the method of analysis accuracy, discussion and deduction of conclusions. The mode of choice of the sample studied should be mentioned, and particular attention should be paid to the statistical treatment of the results. Only essential and conclusive clinical and laboratory data should be quoted.

02. Case Report: Summary description of special case(s), which, due to its rarity or extraordinary informative interest for the community, transcends the individual patient. The Case Reports may only be entered in the Digital Presentation (PD) category.

03. Pictorial Essay: Essay that conveys a message through illustrations and subtitles, with little text. It is not based on original research, having as the main function the complementary education of specialists.

04. Literature Review: In this type of study the author will work with several cases, from one or several authors. The material is collected, analysis and/or reflection on the subject is made, often seeking controversial aspects or promoting discussions of different opinions through their paper. The recommended structure for a scientific paper should be followed and include the consulted bibliography.

14. The author must complete all fields that correspond to the paper abstract. In total, these fields must contain a maximum of 350 words. The summary fields will vary according to the Type of Study selected, as below:

15. It is not necessary to provide references in the abstract, but they should be mentioned in the presentation during JPR 2019.

16. Term(s) having a known abbreviation may be abbreviated after a first occurrence in the text, with the abbreviation in parentheses. Examples: Central Nervous System (CNS), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasonography (US), etc.

17. The author of Original Papers must indicate if the paper is registered in the Committee of Ethics in Research (CEP, Brazilian initials) of the National Commission of Ethics in Research (National Council of Health/Ministry of Health). If the paper has it, the author must mention the registration number when registering the abstract.

18. The author must submit a single file in PDF format with up to five figures/slides with paper-related subtitles and may contain images, tables and/or graphics. The figure(s) contained in this file must be original, that is, they cannot be extracted from the literature or third parties authorship papers.

19. The responsible author can follow the JPR 2019 website for information on whether or not the enrolled paper summary is approved.

20. The approved papers are expected to be released on February 8, 2019. If there is a need to change the date of disclosure, the Scientific Papers Committee undertakes to previously disclose the new date on the event's website (

21. Possible expenses associated with the submission of papers are the authors’ responsibility.

22. Every paper approved for presentation at JPR 2019, whether in the Printed Paper, Digital Presentation or Oral Presentation category, must be prepared in PowerPoint format and sent to the Radiological and Diagnostic Imaging Society of São Paulo (SPR) until March 18, 2019 (more information on item 31).

23. This PowerPoint presentation does not have a minimum number of slides, but it must contain a maximum of 30 slides. The content should be designed so that participants can read the presentations, study them, understand them and learn from it independently, during JPR 2019 or later.

24. The author must declare in one of the initial slides of the presentation if he/she has any conflicts of interest. If so, the conflict must be informed.

25. For papers enrolled in the Printed Paper (PI) category, the last slide in the PowerPoint file should be a panoramic poster image (layout similar to that of the poster that will be displayed during the event).

26. Literature Review and Pictorial Essay papers must be composed of original images. We will not accept papers in which all or most of the images are taken from the internet, books, scientific journals, etc.

27. It is necessary to quote the source when the illustrations used are not original.

28. The author should mention in the paper presentation, be it the Printed Paper, Digital Presentation or Oral Presentation if he/she has registered with the Committee of Ethics in Research (CEP) of the National Commission of Ethics in Research (National Health Council/Ministry of Health ).

29. Authorship with Responsibility: All papers approved for submission at JPR 2019 must contain the contribution(s) of each author to prepare the paper, at the end of the text, after the bibliography. (Examples: idealization, case-finding and bibliographic, proofreading, etc., see the model used on Radiology). This quotation should be made only in the final version of the paper, sent to SPR for submission at JPR. It is not necessary to quote it when submitting the abstract.
30. The maximum size of the paper's PowerPoint file should be 30 Megabytes.

31. The PowerPoint presentation of the paper must be submitted to SPR in two ways:

01. Through the submission system, at
02. Through correspondence companies such as Post Office, DHL, FedEx, etc., to the following address: Av. Paulista, 491, cjs. 31/32, CEP 01311-000, São Paulo, SP, Brasil. In the case of this delivery system, the presentation should be recorded on CD or DVD. This CD/DVD must be identified with the following information on the disc and its cover:
• Paper code generated when submitting the summary.
• Paper title , as registered in the summary submission system.
• The area in which the abstract was enrolled.
• The category in which the paper will be presented in the event (Printed Paper, Digital Presentation or Oral Presentation).
Name of the main author, as registered at the time of the abstract submission.
Contact details of the main author.
The lack of identification and other data may disqualify the paper.

32. The CD/DVD sent through mail carriers must have the freight and other taxes paid by the sender at the time of the posting. Correspondences that are not sent under these conditions will not be received by SPR.

33. The author will not be able to change the file after sending it to SPR.

34. If the author does not send the PowerPoint presentation of his/her paper until the date stipulated in item 22 of this regulation, March 18, 2019, he/she will suffer penalties that will vary according to the paper category, as described below:

34.1. Printed Paper (PI):
a) The poster may be exposed at the event, but will not be evaluated by the JPR 2019 judging committee;
b) The digital version of the paper (PowerPoint) will not be presented at JPR 2019.

34.2. Digital Presentation (PD):
a) The paper will not be presented at JPR 2019, being automatically disqualified.

34.3. Oral Presentation (TL):
a) The paper may be presented orally at JPR 2019, but will not be evaluated by the JPR 2019 judging committee.
b) The digital version of the paper (PowerPoint) will not be presented at JPR 2019.
35. The approved papers must be presented during JPR 2019 according to the features of the category in which they were registered by their authors, or according to the category to which they were directed by the Scientific Papers Commission. The presentation features of each category are as follows:

01. Printed Paper (PI): Paper presented in poster format printed at the JPR 2019 Printed Papers exhibition area. The poster should be 0.90m high by 1.90m wide. No wooden rods or support bars should be used as the posters should be glued with double-sided tape in the event display area. The poster must be installed by its authors on the first day of the event, Thursday, May 2, from 8 am to 12 pm. Before installing the poster, the author must identify himself/herself at the Scientific Papers Secretariat, in the exhibition area, where he/she will be guided on the correct location of the installation. The withdrawal must be made on Sunday, May 5, from 10 am to 1 pm. The organizers will not be responsible for paper not taken at the end of the event. Printed Papers will also have their digital version (PowerPoint) available for JPR 2019 attendees’ access on the computers in the Digital Presentation section. The files previously submitted to SPR by the author will be used in this display.

02. Digital Presentation (PD): Paper presented in digital format (PowerPoint) at the JPR 2019 Digital Presentation section. The file previously sent to SPR by the author will be used in this display.

03. Oral Presentation (TL): Paper presented orally at JPR 2019 classrooms. The author will have eight (8) minutes of presentation, followed by two (2) minutes for discussion and clarification (except in cases where the course coordinator changes the previously set time). The presentation time is non-extendable. The presenter should bring to the event a PowerPoint version of the paper recorded on a flash drive and install it on one of the Media Desk at least one hour before the start of the presentation. The Oral Presentation presenter does not have to be the first author of the paper; however, it is necessary to be enrolled in JPR 2019. The Oral Presentations will also have their digital version (PowerPoint) available for the JPR 2019 attendees’ access on the computers in the Digital Presentation section. The files previously submitted to SPR by the author will be used in this display.

04. Commented Panel: Original Papers that have had their summaries best rated in the qualifying phase for JPR 2019 can be invited for a commented presentation in the corresponding section at a pre-defined time by the JPR 2019 organizers. The presenter should bring to the event a PowerPoint version of the paper recorded on a flash drive and install it at the Scientific Papers Secretariat at least 20 minutes before the start of the presentation session. The Commented Panel presenter does not need to be the first author but must be enrolled in JPR 2019.

36. All PowerPoint files of the approved papers previously submitted to SPR will be inserted into the computers of the JPR 2019 Digital Presentation Section.

37. There will be no user access to the Digital Presentation Section computers, so these computers will not be connected to the Internet, which prevents the possibility of copying or sending material by email.

38. All approved papers, regardless of category, must have at least one person registered in JPR 2019.

39. The paper presentation certificate will be available in digital version at, 15 days after the event. SPR does not provide a printed certificate.
40./ After JPR 2019, the digital version of the approved papers will be published in the SPR website Restricted Area (, with exclusive access to SPR members. When submitting the paper, the author(s) should be aware of this post-JPR submission form.

41. Published images will have a minimal resolution for screen/web viewing, which prevents misuse or malicious use in publications or printed periodicals or even disclosed via the web.
42. The email of the author(s) responsible for the paper will be disclosed in the special supplement, "JPR 2019 – Scientific Papers", for any exchanges of information.

43. Other cases not mentioned in this regulation will be decided individually by the JPR Scientific Papers Committee, as necessary.
